July 14th-20th "The Majesty of Volume"
Bernard Leach, British philosopher and potter,
often described pottery or pots as the "Majesty
of Volume".
I often have tried to apply this maxim to my own
pottery. In doing so, I believe this pursuit of
showing volume in a piece of pottery is endless.
This pursuit has often inspired me to
make the next piece. Please take this journey
with me to explore wheel thrown forms, functional
or sculptural. How do these pieces relate to
gravity and exist in space? In this class we will
work in a series of shapes of one's own chosing
to refine skills and explore our visual vocabulary.
